New & Notable from the Green Market
In this article:
I’m happy to share some of the gems that I discovered at the recent February NY NOW trade show. It’s comforting to see some perennial favorites – but I get especially excited about the variety of new, sustainable products hitting the market. I’m hoping to provide much of this product on my upcoming e-store. Let me know if you are looking for a sustainable product solution that jGj’s green design GOODS might supply.
five ply design
five ply design offers cleverly designed eco-wood products, from lighting fixtures to trivets and birdhouses. Using only sustainably harvested or salvaged wood veneers, with low-no VOC paints & finishes, this Seattle based company has got you covered for eco-gifts year round!
Urbana Sacs
Urbana Sacs sustainable handcrafted totes, vessels, backpacks and organizers are made from variety of virgin pulp fiber blends and recycledfelts. Individually handmade in Los Angeles these washable paper fabric totes have been designed so that you can cuff and shape them to suit your needs. Like fabric, they can be washed and reused over and over again.
que
My new favorite reusable bottle is que. A super lightweight, wide mouth, collapsable bottle made from 100% food-grade silicone with a stainless steel cap. No plastic! It’s an absolutely ingenious design reminiscent of the old collapsable camping cups.
Available in 20 oz & 12 oz options, this bottle is not only great for those with an active lifestyle – but also for parents with little ones. The collapsed version is both compact, indestructible, and an easy grab for those little hands.
Blacksaw
Blacksaw is offering some amazing handcrafted, Fair Trade Alpaca product. They literally market their blankets as both throws and wall mounted textile art. I’m crazy about Alpaca because it is warmer and softer than wool, hypoallergenic, nearly waterproof – while much more durable than cashmere.
Blacksaw’s handcrafted baby alpaca blankets are the product of a Peruvian highlands partnership providing support for the sustainable development of Alpaca raising. “Baby Alpaca” doesn’t come from actual baby Alpacas. It is the fine, soft (quickly regenerative) wool shorn from the underside of the neck once yearly in the spring. My absolute favorite blanket is the ‘100% Recycled Blanket’, which is made of Alpaca (41%) and Highland wool (30%) off-cuts, as well as pima cotton and reclaimed natural
fibers (14%) . Blacksaw also offers a very popular zero dye collection.
Srushti
Srushti organic baby quilt’s sweet designs will make you melt. The organic baby bedding is made by artisans utilizing traditional hand blocking techniques. 100% natural dyes and naturally bleached under the sun – Srushti’s bedding is non-toxic and working towards a zero waste mission along the entire production line. I especially love the gender neutral prints & color themes. Heirloom quality baby bedding this special makes a perfect gift for expecting parents in your life.
Natalie Therese
Natalie Therese cork bags and accessories have a great selection for those dedicated to a vegan lifestyle – as well as sustainable fashion die-hards. Cork is a natural, sustainable material harvested from the bark of cork oak trees. Natalie Therese sources the cork from Portugal – the global leader in cork production. It is waterproof, lightweight, soft and easy to work with – as well as being recyclable and biodegradable. The organic, GOTS certified cotton lined bags are made here in the US. All accents are faux leather.
Flipside Hats

Flipside Hats “Eclipse” sun hat
Just in time for spring break! Check out this organic hat company out of Portland OR. The “Eclipse” (perfect name!) offers the maximum sun protection one could expect from a wide brimmed hat. Flipside also makes snap backs, beanies, and a great selection of kid’s hats. 90% of the raw fabrication materials are recycled or abandoned fabrics sourced from production and dye houses, and carefully up-cycled into long-lasting, limited edition hats and accessories.
Nailmatic
Fun, non-toxic nail polish for your little princesses and rock-stars, as well as organic soap, bath bombs and foaming hair and body wash. The water-based nail polishes can easily be removed with warm soapy water. All colors are non-staining on skin, sinks, and tubs. Nailmatic’s super cute packaging is designed to be colored – encouraging imagination and adventure with every product.
